Week Seven: Deep Conditioning and Treatments

Hey Natural Beauties,

Whether you deep condition or protein treat your hair before or after you shampoo, you must know that these steps are very important in restoring the moisture and elasticity to your hair after the constant wear-and-tear caused by the weather, your manipulation, and other factors. You should be ideally deep conditioning your hair once a week and applying a protein treatment every 4-6 weeks, but it really depends on your lifestyle/health of your hair. Remember you have to create YOUR own regimen and figure out what works best for you and your hair.

You can create your own deep conditioners using conditioners you may already own and beefing them up with honey and penetrating oils such as olive and coconut oil. If you are not a mixologist, you can purchase commercial products as well.

Here is Youtuber Naptural85 discussing how to make and apply her homemade deep conditioners.

Don't forget treatments using a Bentonite Clay, Henna, and other ayurvedic powders for cleansing and conditioning. Here is youtuber Br0nzqt discussing some of these powders.

We hope this was enlightening!

What Deep Conditioners/Treatments have you used or tried? Do you make your own? Have you tried any powders?

  1. Hi ladies! Good day! I hope all of your day has been well:-) I actually keep things pretty simple with deep conditioning. I use both of Naptural85 deep conditioning recipes but not in a long while! I used Ahsiek1118 hot honey oil treatment as well. But not in a long while. LOL(not funny)...Although,recently my baby sis hooked me up conditioner with some Giovanni Smooth as Silk and I love it! I havent tried any henna or ayuredic things before but hopefully I will one day:-) Thanx for all the beneficial info ladies! I love it:-)

  2. Hello all,
My hair loves the Greek yogurt/acv deep treatment by Naptural85...so soft and lovely AND it detangles so easily. I also use conditioner with added oils (olive, castor, jojoba etc..)as a deep treatment. I am trying to learn to balance moisturizing treaments and protein treatments so my hair won't feel gummy or brittle.

  4. Hi ladies and Happy Mothers Day!
I have tried Naptural85's Greek yogurt conditioner, When I went back and looked at it again I decided NOT to use it again just yet as I am transitioning and the 3/4 that the conditioner will go on will be ALL PERM! Soooo, I said I will wait, it was nice and I did put it on mt whole head, Lol.
I will use the yogurt wit other things.
Yesterday was Deep Conditioning day and I looked all over YouTube to find one that I can make, I decided on Mayo, castor oil, honey, it did very good!

  5. Week 7 already :) I haven't tried any homemade deep conditioners; however, this post was very enlightening and I definitely think I am ready to give it a try. I've been struggling this week on my hair as well as my girls hair. It's hard enough trying to get things together with your hair and understanding your own coils, let alone trying to get it together for 3 natural heads with 3 different hair types. Anyway, this challenge is truly helping me with this tough journey.
I will try the greek DC from Naptural85 this week. Good day ladies!

  6. I have been using a deep conditioner that was introduced on kimmaytube's channel. I have also recently cut the remaining relaxer out of my hair and since i am rocking a slightly larger TWA, i have just been conditioning with the Mizani cream curl co-wash conditioner twice a week. i do enjoy the homemade conditioner with added jojoba oil, castor oil, aloe vera juice, and tea tree oil. the aloe vera juice is a great PH stabilizer.

  7. I have been using the olive oil replenishing conditioner as suggested by coilskinkscurls on you tube, but I have not been doing it once a week. I will start though as my hair has been dry as of late. Always informative and helpful, glad I am doing this challenge.

  9. Hi, yeah I just realised that deep conditioning is essential, its a good thing that you show your followers how to use natural home-made products, because some shop-bought products are actually toxic for all of us.

  11. I tried, yogurt and it really softened my hair, that even after it was all rinsed out- felt like conditioner was still in. I did notice however that the creamed ends were stiffened- probably because I steamed under the dryer

    1. additionally, for about a good two months i have been making it a point to deep condition my hair at least once a week. even though i might end up changing the ingredients slightly all depending on if i do a pre-poo prior i pretty much use yogurt (not Greek though) and honey in some sort of way and my hair seems to enjoy and appreciate the extra care.
