We encourage you to create a goal at beginning of this challenge. DeleteHi I'm naussaunatural, I decided to go natural because I was tired of the hair weaves and damage relaxers was doing to my hair. I am excited to join the challenge, my email address is:sherall05@yahoo.com
DeleteHi! My name is Yolanda. My email address is NaturallyYo@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI decided to become natural after many years of "off & on" cycles of breakage while wearing the relaxer. I had often admired natural styles, but never had the courage to actually go through with it...publicly (I had transitioned & worn natural hair underneath braids & weaves for a long time, before going back to the perm a few times). Eventually, my hair got tired of me & I got tired of it & all the hair drama, so off it went...BIG CHOP! I have been natural since 2007. I'm looking forward to the challenge!
We're glad that you're excited about the challenge, we are too!
DeleteMy name is Kera/Kinky Kinetik. You can contact me via email at kinkykinetik@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI decided to go natural as I was tired of a perm, fascinated about natural hair, felt it was better for my health AND my daughter is natural so I need to be a role model.
I started to transition 5/2009, cut off relaxed hair 11/2009 and haven't gone back since then!
I'm excited about this challenge!
Thanks for joining!
DeleteMy name is Patricia aka Ms. PattieCake. You can contact me at patriciapotter.fl@gmail.com. Ever since I was a child, my mother always had issues combing my hair because it was so course and thick and I was very tender headed. Coming my hair became a dainty task. It always led to arguments, tears, yelling etc. Finally, my mother gave in and permed my hair. I don't even remember the day she permed my hair. Ever since then my hair has been permed. Couple months back I noticed that my hair was thinning out and then that was the fina straw. I got bored of straight hair and I needed my hair to be healthier. So I rebelled and went natural I did my big chop on Feb. 24th 2012, 2 weeks and a day ago. Finally, and this was also incidentally, in the past, I was living with low self esteem for so long because of my weight. But as I went through different life changing experiences such as my father's death and the power to overcome numerous challenges after his death, I learned a lot and blossomed into a new person. I've also made a seriously conscious decision to loose weight and be happy and healthy with my body. My weight loss body has also been a great success this far, but i still have a very long road to travel.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your big chop and thanks for joining.
DeleteMy name is Kim. I can be reached at kgoldenk@gmail.com. I have been natural for over 10 years but have just started having a desire to embrace my curls. I have been wearing a wash and go for about a month now. My goal is to only straighten my hair once in May (for a special occasion) and to wear it curly for the next 6 months.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining!
DeleteThis sounds like an awesome challenge. I'm not yet fully natural, but I am transitioning to becoming natural again. My name is Jess, and I can be reached at jessiepea28@gmail.com. I'm deciding to go natural again, because I loved my hair when it was natural the first time and I'm anxious to do the journey again. Next month I will be 3 months post relaxer.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Jess!
DeleteI decide to become natural because I was just tired of the perm hair and i really wanted to see how my hair was in its natural state, last perm wad Nov2010 and did the big chop April2011, loving every min of it also. Britney Collier email: b.coll1986@gmail.com, so ready for this challenge
ReplyDeleteCongrats on almost a year post BC, and thanks for joining!
DeleteMy name is Je'Nelle and my email address is eyesbyje@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI decided to go natural simply because if I didn't, I would have no hair around my edges for the most part. I've done it all to my hair and my flourished at times and fell out the rest. I eventually got tired of the relaxing, got tired of the burning but most of all, got tired of the thinning. I needed a change and quick. I wore my hair in short hairstyles until it was a boycut and I started from there. My hair isn't as thick as it used to be but it isn't as thin either.
I've been natural since June 2006 and started my loc journey October 2011. I will never relax my hair again!!
Congrats on maintaining your hair naturally for so long. Thanks for joining the challenge!!
DeleteMy name is Heather williams. I can be reached at asthepageturn@gmail.com. I am new to being natural, working on the chop from pern, so I believe this challenged will be the begining process of being natural.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the natural hair community. Thanks for joining
DeleteMy name is Deneille but everyone calls me DeeDee. I have had relaxed hair since around age 12. I have always had a love/hate relationship with my hair because I HATED when it was to to relax it again. The itching, desire to scratch/can't scratch, then the burning. I cut off all my hair two years ago, but since I had no clue how to care for natural hair I texturized it and then ultimately relaxed it again. At the end of 2011 I realized I was tired of the relaxing and the burning. I said "this cannot possibly be good for my scalp". My last relaxer was in December 2011 and in January 2012 I made the decision to transition. I am still learning so I think this challenge will be perfect! My email address is deelyscious@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteWelcome! Thanks for deciding to join!
DeleteMy name is Yulonda. I stopped relaxing my hair June of 2011. I BC'd December 17th. I've experienced good growth so far but looking forward to much more as I learn more about me and my natural hair. LOVING BEING NATURAL!!! Wish I had done it sooner:-). yburris@gmail.com

DeleteHey my name is Natalie email address is ntlgore@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI decided to start transition around July of 2011for I wore quivkweaves continually up until February 2012 when I wore my natural out for the first time. Because my hair was cut in a short short style anyways I just clipped and trimmed the permed ends off between quick weave installments. My goal right now is a little more length right now as well as to use the right product so that my tightly coiled kinks will have a little more luster/shine about iyself
Thanks for joining! Welcome!
DeleteMay name is Angela email address is angelarnold777@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI decided to start transition around March 2011 and had my texturised ends clipped bit by bit everytime I went to have a gel twist style. I would also have weaves in between to give some variety. I have now been fully natural for about 6 months and my goal is achieve moisture and maintain and colour without becoming a product junkie. Length achievement of course and just healthy curls fo a great wash and go.
These are all achievable goals! Thanks for joining :)
DeleteMy name is Tamara and my email address is tlc 52300@gmail.com. I decided to go natural because I continuously kept getting chronic fungal infections of the scalp to my hairline, just in the front. I went natural 3 times, but this time is the last time. My last time going natural was Jan. 2008. I transitioned for 2 months and decided to just big chop and now it has been 4 years. My goal is to retain great length and fall more and more in love with my curls!
ReplyDeleteTime flies by fast, doesn't it? Thanks for joining!
DeleteMy name is Tam and my email is tperk09@gmail.com. I decided to go natural due to the constant irritation to my scalp due to getting relaxers every 8 weeks. My last relaxer was January 8, 2011 and I did my big chop at 13 months in February 2012. My goal is to retain length and to have a simple effective regimen with healthy hair.
ReplyDeleteWelcome! Thanks for joining!
DeleteMy name is LaTisha and my email is latisha.johnson606@gmail.com. I decided to go natural because I changed hair stylists who decided to "trim" my hair unevenly I might add. Once I seen my once bra strap length relaxed hair disappearing before my eyes I knew it was time for a change. I began a year long transition March 2010, and cut the last of my relaxed ends off April 7 2011. My one year nappiversary is coming up soon!!! My goal is to maintain more moisture, retaining length while trying to reach bra strap length.
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome goals. Let's achieve them together! Thanks for joining :)
DeleteMy name is Amanda and my email address is randomeme2304@gmail.com. I decided to go natural because after just 5yrs of having a perm it thinned my hair out extremely, it was limp and lifeless. I wanted my volume and thickness back so I went natural in 2006!! Transitioned for 2 1/2yrs because my hair was long and I did not want to do a big chop and been completely natural for 3 1/2yrs. My hair was great til I moved to a different state in 2010 and for the past yr and a half I've been experiencing breakage, shedding, and dryness of my natural hair. Just over the past 3 months I figured out it was the water. Now that I have a water filtering system my hair is much better & time to start my hair journey all over again for HEALTHY natural hair! So here I gooooo! :)
ReplyDeleteYes,hard water can DESTROY the hair. Thankfully you knew your hair enough to find the problem. Good for you! Thanks for joining :)
DeleteHello my name is Lisa and my email address is ableonard6@gmail.com. My transition began 10/15/2009. That was my last relaxer. I transitioned for 14 mos. I big chopped on 12/18/10, on my husbands B-day, and he cut my hair saying it was his B-day present..LOL.I went natural because I was tired of relaxers thinning my hair out. I desperately want to learn my hair and give it what it craves.I look forward to this challenge.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that your husband was supportive. That always helps :) Thanks for joining :)

Also, I have been told that when I was younger, I had curly and thick hair, and I would love to explore my natural hair. DeleteHi all! My name is Leeannjua and my email is leeannjua@gmail.com. I have been natural for 12 years now after becoming displeased and tired of how my hair felt and behaved using a relaxer after 5 years. I missed my thick, soft, and healthy hair! I'm here to: gain some knowledge as to the many options as a "Curly Cutie", maintain growth, minimize heat, share experiences, and make some new natural friends!
ReplyDeleteWe will learn from eachother! Welcome.
DeleteMy email address is Shelby.Gilbert@comcast.net 1) I decided to go natural because I was tired of spending $125 every 5 weeks to get my hair relaxed, only to have it break off once it reached shoulder length. 2) I have "gone natural" several times since 2000, but most recently I have been natural since April 12, 2009. I keep big-chopping, however, so my goal is to grow my hair past shoulder length without getting frustrated.
ReplyDeleteI spent so much money on relaxers and its maintenance. So glad that is over! Let's grow our tresses together. Welcome!
DeleteHello everyone! My name is Courtney and my e-mail address is rayececelia@gmail.com. I decided to go natural because not only was my relaxed hair damaged but also because I was tired of all the things I had to stay away from because of it like no swimming, running away when it rained every time and working out. I have been natural for 6 months so far and I am loving it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining Courtney!
DeleteHi ladies my name is Akina I have been natural for 10 years! I had dread locks down my back. I did a big chop, I didn't want dreads anymore..So now I am enjoying my many hair styles with my natural hair!

DeleteMy name is Kim and I can be reached at kclockett@yahoo.com. I have been natural all 23 years of my life. In the summer of 2010 I started my healthy hair journey. I had previously paid zero attention to the maintenance of my hair and what I put in it and just thought it was impossible to get it to grow. I was 3 months away from chopping it all off when I stumbled across natural hair channels on YouTube and decided to try what they were doing for the next three months. My hair responded wonderfully and I have kept it up ever since.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks for joining!
DeleteHello sistas! My name is Brittney. I can be reached via email at brittneyterrell@ymail.com. I have been natural for 2 1/2 years and loving it! I made the decision to go natural because my hair simply was unhealthy and I was "OVER IT", so to say. With much research and encouragement from my loved ones... I did it! When I actually did it was the surprise as well as how I did it! I big chopped all the way down to a fade like my Hubby on a random Tuesday! Everyone was shocked!(including myself :-) ) But I wouldnt change one thing about my journey! It has been such an awesome learning experience and has added to the confidence and assurance in myself as a young black woman. I initially had no more hair to rely on for beauty... Just me! Lol... I am soooo looking forwqrd to this challenge and all of the knowledge and possible friendships I can gain from being apart of such an amazing group of women! I am currently doing a protective styling challenge to get through these cold winter months and also to retain some length. Cant wait to learn more about my hair and how to better care for it!
ReplyDeleteWelcome! Thanks for joining!
DeleteHi! My name is Sherri, and you can reach me at world_of_silence@yahoo.com. After almost 30 years of relaxing, I noticed my hairline was starting to get thin so I followed my twin(who has been natural for 4 years) and get rid of it. After 7 months of transitioning, I BC'ed exactly one week ago and I'm enjoying getting to know my natural hair. For now, I'll be concentrating on the dryness in my hair and scalp and figuring out this serious case of the itchies! *lol*
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the family! Thanks for joining!
DeleteHello, My name is Lenore and I can be reached at desireesink@gmail.com. I decided to go natural three years ago because I was tired of the relaxers and my thick curly hair was thinning and falling out. I decided to transition for a year with Keratin treatments and cut off all the damaged hair and then in Feb. 2010 I was fully natural. I just hit my two year mark and I'm sooo happy. I love my natural hair and I'm still learning about it. My biggest challenge is going to be the summer months. I live in an extremely humid place and this will be the first summer that I don't put my hair in my protective braids. Plus I have a goal of bsl by Aug. So I'm looking forward to all the information that will be provided.
ReplyDeleteWe hope you reach your goals! Thanks for joining!
DeleteHi all. I'm Anne Hill. My email is amph327@aol.com. I have been natural 9 months this March 9th. I will be one year June 5. I decided to go natural from no choice of mines. I got a perm for my Pastors banquet and it was a bad perm. My bsl hair went to neck length in the back in almost a weeks time:(. The sides and middle didn't. The middle was still apl and could stretch and cover the back of it but it was not a good look to me. So I had to go natural. I have a YouTube video on my journey so far. My YT name is amph327. I'm so looking forward to this and I'm glad to be I. This with all my sisters learning together. I wanna become a wash and go girl only starting april
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining! Welcome
DeleteHey Everyone my name is Q and my email is adailypieceofme@gmail.com. I decided to go natural my freshman year in college after my hair started to fall out from not being able to keep up with my perms. That was a little under 5 years ago and up until this past dec I rocked braids and press and curls. Now I am learning how to handle my hair in its natural state and made a vow of no heat for a year.
ReplyDeleteI am also on a "no heat" challenge. Let's succeed together. This is going to be fun!
DeleteHey everyone my name is Nakea my email is nakeamorris25@yahoo.com. I decided to go natural because I got tired of paying alot money to people who just cut my hair off every time I went in the salon. They would tell me things to do and I would follow thier directions only to have my hair break off or have my sides disappear. Then I started seeing ladies rock thier natural hair and just fell in love. I bcd and that was that I will be two years natural in june. My goal is to retain length, and prevent the number of split ends I get.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Nakea!
DeleteHello my name is Antoinette my email is annswink80@ att.net. I decided to go natural because I was tired of not keeping up on getting perms every 6-8 weeks. I always like my natural hair I just didn't know how to manage my curls. I've been natural for 10 months. My goal is to find a good regimen that works for me. I would like to see my hair grow healthy.
ReplyDeleteWelcome!! Thanks for joining!
DeleteGreetings,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Kahsanjra, my e-mail address is kahsanjra@aol.com.
I decided to go natual because I was on a self-esteem journey and embracing my heritage. This was about 9 years ago. I can say I will NEVER go back! Although it has been nine years I am still learning. My hair goal is to combat dryness, I have been working on it but I think I need to find the product or combination that will work for me. Although I have started my other goal, it is to avoid combing my hair (finger combing only) and continuing not putting heat on my hair.
I think most naturals face dryness. However, we will try to curb that dryness. Thanks for joining!
DeleteHi my name is Shawn and my email is shawn2marie@gmail.com...At first I was being lazy and didn't feel like relaxing my hair hahaha..then I realized it had almost been 4 months since I had one so I decided at that point I was tired of the 2 different textures and just wanted a change so I BC'd on 4/1/2011 so I am coming up on my one year :-)I still am trying to figure out what works best for my hair but I do have products that I like and will continue to use because I like the results I get.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Shawn!!
DeleteHi! I'm Courtney, and my email is Courtney@CourtneyBoyd.com.
ReplyDeleteI first knew I wanted natural hair in high school, but I've always loved the look of highly textured hair. I started to learn more about natural hair as a freshman in college, and even transitioned for 8 months before succumbing to relaxers. Then, 6 months later, I decided to challenge myself to never relax again. I big chopped in June 2009, after 8 months of transitioning. My 3-year natural anniversary is June 19th.
WOOOOHOOOO!!! Glad to have you!
DeleteHi my name is Daliah and my email address is daliah728@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI began transitioning in August 2011 (my last relaxer applied July 2011). It was when when I developed psoriasis at the nape of my neck in October 2011 that I decided it was time to big chop. Because of the oil and shampoo I was prescribed to treat this condition I had to shampoo my hair everyday and sleep with the oil on my hair at night.
I big chopped November 16, 2011 and am thoroughly enjoying it. It has been almost 4 months and I just recently starting using Youtube as a guide to get me through the in between stage of the TWA. I am grateful for the journey to the new me. I look forward to chatting with all the "Curly Girls" on here sharing and learning new techniques.
We look forwarding to chatting with you too. Thanks for joining!
DeleteHi, my name is Lenore and my email address is lsholmes83@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI began transitioning in August 2011(last relaxer was July 2011). I decided to go natural for my daughter. I didn't want to be one of those mothers who says "Do as I say and not as I do". I never want her to experience the torture of a relaxer. I have not big chopped yet, but I have been cutting about 2 inches every month. It's going okay, but would love to learn how to truly manage natural hair in a healthy growing way. Can't wait to learn from y'all.
We are glad you are doing this for your daughter. You are making her proud :) Welcome.
DeleteHi my name is Adrienne and my email is addieali3@yahoo.com. I decided to go natural because relaxers thinned my hair and gave me bald spots. I had my last relaxer November 2010. I tried to transition and did for a little while with braids but the two textures kept tangling and knotting. So I cut it off the relaxed ends Nov 2011. I am having a hard time figuring out what works for my hair. I need some help!!! My goal is to grow healthy hair.
ReplyDeleteWe all need to learn more about our hair. You have come to the right place. Thanks for joining :)
DeleteHi, my name is Sarah and my email address is lajuana1015@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWhy did you decide to become natural? I was tired of relaxing my hair all the time. I sweat a lot and all my hair would do is curl up! I went months without doing anything to my hair I just wore wigs. My hair was a hot mess so I bought some clippers and shave all my hair off!
How long have you been natural? Since 12/13/11
Thanks for sharing! Welcome to the challenge!
DeleteMy name is Candace and my email address is cankennkody@gmail.com. I have been free of hot Combs and flat irons since Feb 2012. My goal is to retain length and to maintain moisture in my hair. I am so excited about being apart of this challenge.
ReplyDeleteYay to moisture! Thanks for joining!
DeleteHi, my name is Kenyata. My email address is kenyataboulware@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI started transitioning in Jan. 2012 and my last relaxer was Nov. 2011. I am almost 4 months in. I decided to start this journey to natural hair because I was tired of getting relaxers and sometimes they would not take. My hair started to thin out and break off.
I plan on getting my big chop in Nov. 2012 which will be my one year mark. :D My goal is to grow healthly and thick hair. I will be getting a protective style (braids)at the end of March and I was wondering can I still do this challenge?? :/
Yes, of course!! Thanks for joining!
DeleteOk thanks!
DeleteHi I My name is Shautel and my email is shautelwalker@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI have actually been natural most of my life, only wearing a relaxer for 7 years, 4 years of high school and 3 years in college. I cut my relaxer out my at the end of my junior year of college after giving birth to my son and just feeling as I needed something low maintenance, since I would be raising a child and starting my senior year. So since then, I've had locs, and cut my hair 2 or 3 times, mainly because I didn't feel it was growing properly and I wanted to start over, after all it's just hair. My goal is to get the healthy thick curly hair I had when my cousin's were married about 12 years ago, I can still see that picture of my curly hair in my head..My hair was full and thick and i had such beautiful curls. I do love my hair and just want to make sure it, knows I do.
Thanks for joining! I hope you meet all your goals!
DeleteHey ya'll! My name is Roni and my email is mccreary_v@yahoo.com.
ReplyDeleteI have been natural since June 2009 and I love it. I decided to go natural after my best friend and my mom had told me (over & over again) that I didn't need a relaxer. They both are relaxer free but wear their hair straight. One day my best friend mentioned that I should try a bantu knot out because she had seen someone else with that style. So of course I googled it and TONS of natural hair blogs and videos came up. I was hooked. I loved how everyone in the natural community were supportive and embracing their natural hair. So I started experimenting with styles and products...I have been loving every minute of being natural.
And I can't wait to see what all is in store for this challenge. =)
Welcome!!
DeleteHi! My name is Ashley and my email lil_angelh@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have been natural my entire life (18 yrs), but now I am on a jounrney for healthy hair. After moving to Canada from Jamaica my hair broke and it has not been the same since and to add to my stress heat damage from flat ironing everyday made it even more damaged. my goal is to have healthy curly hair again.
Cheers to Healthy Hair!
Yes! Cheers to healthy, beautiful hair! Thanks for joining :)

Why did you go natural? I was having breakage, and other issues from relaxing my hair.
When did you go natural? I've actually been natural for about 16 years. I had dreadlocks, but just a few days ago, I cut them off. Right now I'm rockin the teeny weeny fro!
Wow that's awesome!! Thanks for joining :)

DeleteMy name s Tina at shygirlndallas@gmail.com. Im so excited about this challenge! I have been natural for the 2nd time for 3 1/2 years. The first time I went natural was bcuz I wanted to see my true hair. I felt like the relaxed hair was not really my hair. I went back to a relaxer bcuz I thought t would be an easy styling option after doing hot yoga. I was so wrong, so I chopped it all off and never looked back. Looking forward to learning new tips, etc. thank u!
ReplyDeleteNo thank you for joining!
DeleteHi. My name is Pam W. and I have been natural since August 2010. I just did the big cut Feb 10, 2012. I decided to go natural after my stylist asked me why I kept relaxing my hair and I had no answer as to why I was doing it. It made realize that I was doing it, because this was all I knew since middle school and I am now almost 30. I started youtubing natural styles and I am so excited to learn more about what my hair needs so I can supply my hair with it. Needless to say, I will never go back to the relaxer and I am enjoying my natural!!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the family!! Thanks for joining!
DeleteThank you! Also, for putting together something like this!!!!
DeleteHi, I am ummjamila@gmail.com. I have been natural for many years now, yet it is only the last 2 years that I have begun to understand my hair. Although I stopped using perms, I still did not know how to care for my hair. I was never able to attain the length I wanted. I was natural but my hair was not healthy, and my hair would never grow past my shoulders? I am looking foward to this challenge, being able to communicate with like minded women, who have embraced what we were given by the Creator, and loving it.
ReplyDeleteIt's time for growth!! Thanks for joining!
DeleteMy name is Casandra and I just made one month post Big Chop on Sunday, March 11th. My hair was horribly damaged so I decided to Big Chop and start all over, but start over naturally. I look forward to growing my hair out, blogging, and vlogging the whole way through. I hope that my trials, successes, and failures will help others going through the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining! Happy to have you.
DeleteHi, My name is Shavon and I've been transitioning for 4.5 months now. I hope to BC some time in the summer! Initially, I decided to go natural because maintaining relaxers was weighing down my pockets. After watching many natural hair vlogs on YouTube, I'm extremely convinced that this transition is the best thing for me physically and mentally. My email address is scthomas01@gmail.com. Looking forward to this challenge!!!
ReplyDeleteWe look forward to conversing with you and learning together. Thank you!
DeleteHi, this is Jennifer. I'm very excited about this challenge, as I was planned on challenging myself to get to know my hair better over the warmer months. My email address is jmartinez516@kc.rr.com. April 3, 2012 will be my one year anniversary fully natural, but I haven't relaxed since May 2010. I decided to go natural because I got tired of the battle of ALWAYS needing to get my hair done, ironing my new growth and never having the healthy hair I had as a child and I wanted to see if I would win the battle by giving up relaxer.
ReplyDeleteWelcome!! Thanks for joining!
DeleteHello my name is Elisha. My email address is esmith4030@gmail.com. I have been natural for 2 years now and wanted to go natural because I was tired of wasting money on chemicals. My goal for this challenge is length retention and moisture.
ReplyDeleteHere's to growth and moisture retention. Welcome!
DeleteHi my name is CanSandera. My email address is mizezjones@gmail.com. I decided to go natural after realizing how much damage I was causing with the relaxer and color. I have been natural for a little over a month after transitioning for a little over a year.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Welcome and thanks for joining!
DeleteHello, my name is De'Lona and my email address is delonamodel@Yahoo.com. I have not used a relaxer on my hair since 2006 which I seriously regretted. Prior to that I had not had a relaxer on my hair since 1995. I had been pressing and flat ironing by hair because my 3c, 4a texture could not withhold the stress of chemicals. My hair has pretty much been shoulder length since I can remember. I decided to go natural and stop using heat in hopes to retain length. I want to prove to myself and others that Afro textured hair can grow. I have only been 100% natural since January and I can already see the progress. This is my first challange and it is going to help serve as motivation to stick with it. Good things come to those who wait...
ReplyDeleteHappy you are doing your first challenge with us! We are excited!
DeleteThank you.
DeleteHello, my name is Robin. My email address is rorailey@aol.com. I am new to the natural journey and am excited to see what my "natural hair" is going to become. I had been relaxed since....LOL, I don't even remember when but my last relaxer was early Jan '12. I work out about 4-5 times a week for 2-4 hours and was washing my hair that much as well. Don't like sweaty relaxed hair. :-(( I cut my below-the-shoulder length hair several years ago to the short cut in the profile pic thinking it would be easier to maintain. Now I want to be free to not have to sit under the dryer, flat iron, and / or curl my hair not to mention "touch-up" relaxers every 2-3 weeks to keep the back smooth. I am also doing this for my daughter. She is all natural (4 1/2 months) and not by choice, had a bad experience with taking a weave out (her own hair was just below her shoulders). :-(((( So she now has these really nice curls forming and I'm trying to help her become more comfortable with being short and natural while it grows out. And I'm jealous!!!!! I want natural curls, too. I'm hoping my hair will continue to grow as fast as it did when I was chemically-bound. I have been following Mahogany Curls, NikkiMae, Taryn and several others on Youtube as well as CurlyNikki and Naturallycurly websites and am totally inspired. Although I am much older than most of you young ladies, I have learned lots in these last few months on natural hair care, hair textures, growth, products, etc. And most of all the styles that y'all come up with are phenomenal!!! Hopefully next year this time I will have a nice healthy curly do to post for my 1 year anniversary. I have already started the Curly girl method to start training my new growth before I cut the rest of the relaxer out for good (getting up the nerve to wear a TWA). Wish my daughter and I luck, I'm in it for the long haul. God bless.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you both!! We are confident that you will both succeed. Welcome!
DeleteHi my name is nisha my email address is powell_arnisha@yahoo.com i decided to go natural in october 2009 i transitioned for 2 years before cutting the rest of the relaxer completely off in november 2011. My reason for going natural was to have stronger healthier hair. Been completely natural for 3 months now, i feel free and im loving it!! lol

ReplyDeleteHey! Why did you decide to go natural? How long have you been natural? Thanks for joining!
DeleteHi. My name is Kishone.
ReplyDeleteWhy did you decide to become natural?
After experiencing some life changing, stressful events, the effect on my hair was very noticeable. My hair began thinning. So in Dec of 2009, I bc, with absolutely no intent on going natural, just wanted my hair to start from scratch. Well, my hair grew, but some areas were growing in thin. And in June 2010 I began my quest on going natural. I wanted my healthy hair back! And in April of 2011 I did my second bc.
How long have you been natural?
21 months post relaxer, 11 months post bc
Thanks for joining! Welcome!
DeleteSulan Green
ReplyDeleteI decided to wear my hair in it's natural state because I was tired of relaxers and I always preferred textured hair. My last relaxer was May 4, 2010. I big chopped in September of 2010.
Thanks for joining Sulan!

You can find me on youtube under dinaturalnat and I will continue putting up vids about my hair journey. I have a lot of goals for my hair before I start high school and even though it may be short right now, I am going to enjoy every step of my hair journey and plan to always remain a nappy natural :)<3 I thank all the ladies of youtube for sharing and I especially thank Miss. Jess (MahoganyCurls) for always checking in on me, encouraging me, and directing me to this blog. God Bless!

DeleteMy name is Sawah. My email address is sawah07@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteWhy did you decide to become natural?
I decided to go natural because I cannot remember my natural hair. I was quite young when I got relaxed. I also wanted to be a good example to my daughters. To show them that you don't have to change your hair to be pretty.
How long have you been natural?
I am four months post relaxer. I have been blogging my journey on discoveringnatural.blogspot.com. I have learnt so much about hair in this short four months and seen a lot of growth. Hoping to learn more from this challenge.
You are going to make your daughters proud! Thanks for joining!

Basically I decided to go natural because I was tired of my relaxed hair. I wanted my hair to be in a much healthier state and I wanted to retain length. I had always had a relaxer from about the age 4 or 5 and had never seen my hair without the creamy crack . For the most part my hair had always been somewhat healthy but somewhere around 09/2010 ish the health of my hair began to decline. It began to thin and I began to see a major difference. To make matters worse I decided to dye my hair. After I added the dye to my hair, it began thinning to the point where I barely had hair. Huge Fail. Somewhere during that time I decided I would transition into natural hair. I transitioned for about 3 or 4 months and decided I could NO LONGER deal with the two different textures. It was a huge PAIN.. I had all this thick curly hair growing from my roots and then at then ends where the relaxer had been, it was almost nonexistent, lol. I couldn't deal. So I decided: I'm young, I have nothing to lose, What the Heck? So I went for it and Big Chopped!
GO YOU!!!! Thanks for joining :)
DeleteMy name is Tia, I have been natural since June of 2011. I actually just b/c'd again into a tapered style and colored my hair last Friday. I became natural originally because I was curious as to what my natural texture was after having worn a relaxer since I was 13 (am now 38), but now, I'm so in love with my curls, I know that I'll never relax my hair again. It's become a part of my self expression and it's a lifestyle change for me!:)phillyjawn@live.com
ReplyDeleteWe are glad that you are so passionate about your hair. Welcome!
DeleteHello. I'm Cocoa. I have been natural for 3 years. I decided to go natural after I had my daughter. I was one of those mothers that obsessed about germs and everything organic. I had stopped perming while I was pregnant and wore curly weaves. I got tired of the weaves and decided to cut off the perm and wear my natural hair. Best hair decision I ever made.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!! Thanks for joining!
DeleteHello, my name is Brandi. My email address is bnatural35@gmail.com. I have actually just begun my natural hair journey. My last relaxer was December 2011. I do plan on cutting out my remaining relaxer in October 2012. My decision to go natural really presented itself when my 7 year old daughter told me one day as I was styling my relaxed hair, "I can't wait to grow up so I can have straight hair." I was crushed to think that she did not like what God had naturally given her. So, I told myself, "Enough" I too will wear my hair in its natural state and be a role model for my daughter to make informed decisions as she got older regarding her hair styliing options. I do not want her to think the ONLY option is to put a relaxer in her hair. So, here I stand today, ready to achieve and believe that I am beautiful as I am!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the family! This was passionate and deep and we are glad that your baby girl has galvanized you to change. This was powerful.
DeleteHi, my name is Amelia and I have been natural now for nine months. Iam excited about this challenge.
ReplyDeleteWe are excited as well! Welcome!
DeleteHi my name is Tangela and my email address is bass_acupuncture@Hotmail.com. I have been natural for 3 months now. It is the best thing that I have ever done in my life. I decided to go natural because my hair was thinning out and I wanted the think curly hair that I had growing up.

DeleteHello, my name is LaShanda, my email address is lashandahague@gmail.com, my YouTube channel name: lyhGr8Hair
ReplyDeleteI decided to go natural back in 2007 because, I was tired of the too straight feeling after getting a fresh relaxer, even though I have very thick hair. I was also very curious about my natural texture. It has been an awesome journey and it's been quite smooth since I have embraced the natural curls, compared to wearing it straight!
In April I will be one year post Big Chop. This is actually my second time Big Chopping my hair, the first couple years of my natural hair journey I was a straight natural and never wore my hair in it's natural state. I am very proud to say, I have been sticking to twist outs and other natural styles his past year.
Congrats love!! Welcome!
DeleteHi my name is Nwamaka. I've been natural for the last two years.I went natural for various reasons: 1. I have fine hair with medium density, so relaxing my hair it looks kinda flat and I hate that. 2. Good Hair came out around the same time I was trying to figure out what to do with my hair 3. I had a friend who went to another school also natural and her hair was beautiful. So I started transitioned for about a year and some change and then cut it off about a year later. Ive been natural ever since and have inspired all 3 of my sisters, my mom, and my friends. Email is ashn2689@uah.edu
ReplyDeleteYou are an inspiration to your loved ones and to us!! Thanks for being you and thanks for joining!
DeleteHi! My name is Aribella Lucia, i've been natural for 1 year and 5 months. I went natural mainly because I was tired of straight hair and I really wanted to lock my hair. So in October 2010 i shaved my head clean, about a week or two after having gotten my last perm. I'd just transferred into a new college that fall and shaving my head got me noticed for all the wrong and right reasons. Through going natural I feel like i've found myself, or maybe that's just college. Either way, I am extremely proud of the culture i represent simply by wearing my hair as it is.
ReplyDeleteAs for my original reason for going natural. . .
I have yet to actually lock my hair, and I'm not sure if I still want to. I love my hair being out in a curly fro too much to have it matted away right now.
My goals will be along the lines of growth retention and finding and STICKING TO a regime that works for me.
You are a queen!! Thanks for joining :)
DeleteHi! I'm Chineze (chah-nez-ah), I've been natural for a year and four months technically. I BC'd in Nov 2010 due to my relaxed hair beginning to shed uncontrollably and started wearing wigs. I neglected my hair until August of 2011. No moisturizing, no detangling, nothing. In August I grew tired of buying wigs and decided to start wearing my natural hair.
ReplyDeleteWelcome! Thanks for joining!
DeleteHi everyone, my name is Tanga. My email is gangels2010@gmail. I've been 100% Natural since Oct 2011. My last relaxer was March 18, 2011. I decided to go natural because i was so sick of fighting with my hair being relaxed. Now that I'm natural I have Good Hair Days, everyday!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a GREAT feeling!!
DeleteHi my name is Marcia. email:MCCALLSAU@gmail.com. a. Why did you decide to become natural? The finicial cost of maintaining my short relaxed cut, relaxing the new growth just to keep the style and not having to different textures.
ReplyDeleteb. How long have you been natural? I've been natural since 2005, keeping my hair very close, I applied organic texturizer and decided to cut. So now I'm growing my natural hair and loving it.
Hi my name is Rodina and my email is kids3679@bellsouth.net. I decided to become natural to be free. I didn't want to partake in any more chemicals in my hair. My last perm was Jan 2010, I transitioned for approximately 1 year and cut the rest of the perm off in Feb 2011. WOOO-HOOO, I've been totally natural for a year and one month and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm Kyra, and I've been natural for 3 years and 7 months. I was just too lazy and stopped relaxing my hair. I got tired of the yellow, brittle nails, and my hair was only straight for a week anyway. I transitioned for 10 months and cut my hair on July 4, 2011. I think I'm getting ready to BC for the 1st time in a few weeks for my 30th bday :)
ReplyDeleteMy name is Janet, and my email address is jiggymig@gmail.com. One day last year, I decided to change from a rinse to a semi permanent hair dye and I started to see lots of breakage afterwards. Well that was the turning point for me because unhealthy hair is ugly even if it is straight. And if perming it was making it unhealthy something had to change, and I wasn't about to stop coloring those grays. So the last time I permed my hair was April 2011 and the last time I put intense heat (flat iron/curling iron) on my hair was in July 2011. By the way, if anyone knows of a natural hair salon in Queens NYC that I can go to, please let me know, Brooklyn is so far out of my way to hike out to.

ReplyDeleteHi!!!! My name is Nicole, and my email is ncjackson2@yahoo.com. I decided to go natural for no reason in particular. I was just curious to see how my hair would look without relaxer. I stalled for a couple of years because I've had long hair all my life so I was too scared to cut my hair. My best friend decided to go natural and I just fell in love with her hair. She was my inspiration. So i decided to transition long term and finally, two years later, I'm 100% natural. I did my mini chop on Feb. 10, 2012. So I've been natural for a little over a month now. My goal is to combat dryness, retain length, and just figure out what products will work for my hair. Im lost right now. So I'm very excited.
ReplyDeleteHi ^_^. I am Gaynel, I decided to go back natural, because I love my curly locks and have missed them. I was taking a winter break from relaxers, when I realized I really didn't want to go back and now have been transitioning for 5mths. I'm getting married in June and want my hair to have definite, moist, non-frizzed curls. I'm also not sure what type of curls I have, but I'm thinking 4a
ReplyDeleteHi!My name is Shaimi. I decided to go natural, because i was tired of relaxing my hair every month. (I have very thick hair, and my hairs grows very fast). Besides that, I also realised that I have been relaxing for so long, that I did not even know, the texture of my hair, and I was curious to see it. I have been natural now for about 2 years and 2 months and counting lol. Greetings to lol..Nice initiative.
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Charissa but I go by Rissa. My email address is rissa_4506@yahoo.com. I am currently still transitioning but will chop off the rest of my relaxer in a couple of weeks when it decides to stay warm. I had my last relaxer May '11 and had actually hadn't relaxed my hair for about 6 months. My friend encouraged me to go natural and stop damaging my hair. She did the chop but I was too afraid plus my husband does not like short hair (sigh). I have been happy so far with the transition but am getting antsy to chop the rest off. My goal for this challenge is to stop the shedding. I only comb my hair when it is wet so that is like twice a week when I wash it. It just sheds but I guess that would be normal if I am not combing it daily (?). This is a big year for me so I want my hair to fall in line with everything. Any suggestions will be taken and used. Good luck to everyone. Be Blessed.
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Jonnice. After relocating from Atlanta to Virginia and being separated from the stylist that trained my hair for over 5 years. I refused to go through another "break-up." So instead, I decided to learn more about my hair and begin my 2nd natural hair journey now that there were so many more resources available. I transitioned in 2010 with my last relaxer in June of 2010. I did my bc in January of 2011. It was one of the best, most empowering decisions that I've made in a long time.
ReplyDeleteHey there Curly Divas! My name is Sontia...email is sontiadp85@yahoo.com I've always tried to stay natural, but really got serious the past 2 years. Looking forward to learning more about why my hair has its own mind and how to style it more!
ReplyDeleteHi :) My name is Charnelle and my email address is cj11fran@siena.edu. I started my natural journey January of 2011 and bc in September. I decided to go natural because I've always liked to change my hair and do different things and I thought that being natural would give me more versatility. Since then I've fallen in love with being natural and the natural community and have really been trying to get to know my hair and what it likes. I'm so excited I hope that this challenge helps me to continue to do so.
ReplyDeleteHey there everyone! My name is Shronda and my email address is sophygyrl@gmail.com. I have been transitioning to natural for 18 months. I decided to go natural simply for health reasons. My hair was thinning, breaking, falling, dry...and colored! I am super excited to be a part of this challenge ( this is the first time I will participate in something online) and can not wait to learn from you all and share my experiences. Happy growing ladies :)
ReplyDeleteHi! My name is Pamela and my email address is sanrisa1@yahoo.com. I began my natural hair journey and started transitioning in December of 2010. I just did what I consider to be a BC on February 19th, 2012. I am learning my natural hair and trying to develop a regimen and discover hair products that are just right for me. I'm hoping this challenge will help me find exactly what my hair needs.
