Week Three: Vitamins, Lifestyle, & Diet

Hey Natural Beauties,

Everyone wants to live a healthy and long-lasting life. What’s the best way to do that? It all starts with taking care of yourself! Many of us forget that the things we intake can do more harm than good to our figures, hair, nails, and energy. We need to take the time out to start taking care of ourselves. Before we can achieve that head of healthy natural hair, we need to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

You have to feed your body nutrients such as protein for good body and hair health. Check out THIS ARTICLE by BGLH to learn more about the 13 nutrients that promote hair growth. You may also be curious about what foods you can eat to maintain healthy hair growth. Foods such as salmon and beans are packed with important ingredients for a healthy hair journey. Learn about other healthy foods for hair HERE!

Many of you know about Nina Ellis-Hervey, Ph.D., and creator of BeautifulBrwnBabyDol blog/vlog. She is a natural who has lost and maintained 100 pounds so she knows all about lifestyle changes for the hair and body. Check out her VERY interesting article HERE to learn more!

Have you been including these foods/ingredients in your diet? Is exercise a part of your regimen?

  2. YAY! I SO needed to read this. I'm more motivated to eat healthy for my hair's sake than I am for my waistline's (Sad I know). But I would like to drop a few lbs and eat even healthier than I am now and if I tell myself that it will help my hair too, I'll definitely stick to a healthier regimen.

I love that the article breaks down the categories in which promotes hair health as well as the foods that needed for a healthier body..... I'm gonna try to make an effort to start a healthier eating life style... Tks Curls of joy..

  4. I found this to be encouraging. I already eat well and one of my nicknames is Camel. I guess the missing link is excersize for hair growth. This is the first challenge that I am 100% committed to and feel confident that I will get the results according to my efforts. Thanks again.

  5. I found this to be true since I went natural this second time around. I have been trying to eat healthier and workout more often. I have lost 10lbs so far since January and have been maintaining it. Also, I'm finding my hair has been growing more than ever before. It seemed like it was taking forever for my hair to grow (but that's just my impatience) I've been thinking about trying some Vitamin B complex, it supposedly reduces hair loss, lessens gray hair and the all important; creates rapid hair growth (due to an article I read somewhere). Thanks for this info! :)

  8. Overall health starts from the inside-out! So, its no surprise that this includes my hair. Its not always easing doing what's good for you vs. doing what's good to you! Thanks for the reminder!

  13. I definitely agree that healthy hair and a healthy body starts on the inside. Although I can claim eating some of the foods listed, I think my main struggle has been/continues to be adding variety (creature of habit here) and also eating these healthy foods on a regular basis. My diet isn't completely crap but it could be better. So on my quest for healthy, juicy tresses, I'm going to try to start eating better. Healthy body, healthy hair, healthy life.

  14. Well thanks to these articles, I now know I am doing something right. I can pick out at least 2-3 items per category that I am already eating. In addition to that I take a multivitamin everday, and workout 3 times per week (most weeks :) since studying those interfere at times). However, my concern now is I am not eating/getting enough servings of each....

  16. This is great information. Fortunately I have been. Following a healthy regimen since my husband and I have been following the P90x regimen. I haven't started the exercise regimen yet since I just had my son 2 weeks ago. I started taking biotin because I am fearful of loosing my hair since my hormones dropped due to having a baby. Hopefully it helps.

  17. I have put off reading this week's lesson because I knew it was about being "healthy". LOL. People look at me and think that I'm healthy, because I look healthy. I go to the gym, I work out like a maniac. I'm tall and lean, but that's just genetics. Pizza Hut used to be my daily dinner, especially when I was in the military.I'm not even going to talk about how often I drank alcohol (I don't want the Navy to look bad LOL). I don't like vegetables and I don't eat fruits and water is the last thing on my mind. When it comes down to food, I am probably the most unhealthiest person I know. But I know that if I expect my hair to be healthy and to grow, I have to change my diet. I have now incorporated fruits such as apples, bananas, and strawberries into my daily diet, and I have also started drinking more water, and staying away from alcohol and sweets. I am also looking for ways to incorporate vegetables into my dail diet, but until then I am taking my one a day women's to ensure I am getting the nutrients that I need; not just for my hair, but for my body. Thank You guys so much.

  18. Very informative articles! Valuable info! For the most part, I eat pretty healthy, drink plenty of water, and get plenty of exercise, but I could do better. In addition to the multivitamin I'm taking, I'm going to also make sure to take supplements that are vital for healthy hair. And I have got to do something about that "sweet tooth" that has been rearing its ugly head every now and then. Sugar is not my friend!

  19. I have been on it since I decided on what I wanted for my hair and health, I eat my carrots since carrots contain biotin and I also eat my greens and the right proportions of protein :D *smh* how come I am always late!?
